Carson City Human Services is a community action agency providing a variety of services to the Carson City Community. The Human Services Division is responsible for ensuring that Carson City meets its health, welfare, and community responsibilities as set forth in the Nevada Revised Statutes and city ordinances. The primary mandates are to provide services to the City’s indigent residents, and as a community action agency assist them in becoming self-sufficient.

Carson City Human Services strive to give residents the tools needed to thrive. Case managers assist with goal planning, completing applications, coordinating services with other resources, workforce support, and financial competency opportunities.

The mission of the Carson City Human Services Division is to provide progressive leadership to enhance the well-being of individuals and families across the lifespan. The Tripartite Advisory Board helps fulfill this mission through its role in assessing local needs and working to address the causes of poverty.

Human Services also invites services to use office space to meet with residents such as:

County Indigent Programs

Carson City Human Services determines eligibility for services provided to Carson City indigent residents as set forth in Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 428. Often this is one time assistance and applicant must meet county income guidelines. Carson City is a payer of last resort and will determine any other resources are exhausted prior to issuing an approval. Services may include financial assistance for: One time rent One time utility Emergency Prescription Long-Term Care Burial/Cremation Counseling related to a sexual assault

Housing Program

Through grants from Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Nevada Housing Division, Carson City Human Services offers the following housing programs:

Nevada Housing/Welfare Set-Aside can give one time assistance to a low income household that will be able to sustain the household after the assistance is granted.

Shelter Plus Care can provide permanent housing to chronically homeless persons with disabling conditions. Using the centralized intake process and Housing First model, housing is a priority and once obtained the case manager will assist the participant with applying for wrap around services.

Low Income Housing Trust Fund is designed to rehouse homeless individuals and families while the Emergency Solutions Grant provides case management support to assist the family with a case plan, setting goals, and taking steps toward self-sufficiency. Housing programs are based on funding availability.

Financial Literacy Program

Carson City Human Services has partnered with Nevada State Bank (NSB) to offer residents a Financial Literacy Program. Through a series of eight workshops, NSB volunteers provide participants with information on credit and credit reports, rebuilding credit, banking options, protecting identity, and basic budgeting practices. The public is welcome to attend workshops are held on the first and third Mondays each month from 5:15 to 6:15 pm and on the first Fridays each month at 10:00 am at Carson City Health and Human Services.
