Carson City is a consolidated municipality encompassing the Capitol City and the County. The Carson City Fire Department includes the Emergency Management Division. The emergency management profession has changed greatly in recent years with emerging threats and hazards. As such, we as a community must work together to incorporate all city departments, the private sector, and our city leadership to prepare for, mitigate from, respond to, and recover from an impact to the community.

Emergency Management does not go into the field as a first responder. Instead, we bring subject matter experts together into an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to manage the coordination of information regarding the incident/event and resource management for the responders in the field.

Emergency management programmatic efforts are defined through gap analysis, after- action reports, and elected official input to drive our preparedness efforts! These documents, in coordination with the City’s priorities, works to ensure these changing priorities enables us to improve Carson City’s resilience.

Emergency Management takes pride in our organization, our partners, and our relationships. We are constantly evaluating our organization, our capabilities, our skills, and our ability to support our residents and its guests in their time of need. There has always been a pendulum that swings from natural disaster to human caused disaster, as well as planned events; our strategy and processes will support the approach to manage the extremes of each.
